The Iran International organization, which is linked to the Iranian opposition, said that at least 12,000 people were killed during the crackdown on protests in Iran, describing what happened as the bloodiest episode in Iran’s modern history.
In contrast, an Iranian official stated that the death toll does not exceed 2,000 people, denying the accuracy of the figures put forward by opposition groups and affirming that the authorities dealt with the protests within the framework of maintaining public security.
