German conservative leader Friedrich Merz said the days of Iran’s ruling system are “numbered,” as Washington sharpens its rhetoric and U.S. President Donald Trump signals that military intervention remains an option.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday alongside Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Merz argued that the Iranian leadership can no longer remain in power except through what he described as “pure violence and terrorism against its own people,” adding that this reality has stripped the system of any political legitimacy.
Merz said the moment of change may not be far off, suggesting that the fall of the current ruling system in Iran could be “a matter of weeks.”
