US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Washington is unable to share its plans regarding Iran with its Persian Gulf allies, citing security concerns.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said revealing the strategy to regional partners would risk undermining it. “We can’t tell them the plan. If I told them the plan, it would be almost as bad as telling you the plan it could be worse, actually,” he said.
Trump added that talks with Iran are ongoing but outcomes remain uncertain. “The plan is that [Iran is] talking to us, and we’ll see if we can do something. Otherwise, we’ll see what happens,” he said.
He also pointed to an increased US military presence, saying Washington has deployed a large naval force to the region. “We have a big fleet heading out there, bigger than we had and still have, actually in Venezuela,” Trump said.
The comments come amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as growing concern among Gulf states over regional security developments.
