At an average rate of one execution every three hours… 32 prisoners executed in Iran within four days
Reports from human rights organizations indicate that at least 32 prisoners have been executed in Iran over the past four days. According to these figures, the Tehran regime has carried out an average of eight executions per day—equivalent to one execution every three hours.
These executions took place between Wednesday, February 26, and Saturday, March 1, in various prisons across Iran, including the cities of Arak, Isfahan, Amol, Ahwaz, Bojnord, Birjand, Rasht, Sari, Karaj, Kermanshah, and Mashhad.
On Saturday, March 1, seven prisoners, including a woman, were executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. Two prisoners were executed in Amol Prison, and one in Arak Prison.
A public execution was carried out in Bojnord on Friday, February 28, while two prisoners were executed in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan on Thursday, along with another in Sari Prison and two more in Lakan Prison in Rasht.
Additionally, on Wednesday, nine prisoners were executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, five in Kermanshah Prison, one in Birjand Prison, and another in Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz.
Many of these executions occurred in Ahwaz and other regions, with charges ranging from “murder, drug possession or trafficking, and moharebeh (enmity against God) through armed robbery.”
These executions have been documented by multiple human rights sources, including the HRANA news agency, Iran Human Rights Organization, Haal Vsh (which focuses on the rights of the Baloch people), as well as some Iranian state media.
In recent months, Iran has witnessed a surge in executions, sparking protests both inside and outside the country. One of the latest forms of protest is the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, which began in February 2024 and has continued for 57 weeks. On February 27, a group of prisoners in 37 Iranian prisons launched a hunger strike in opposition to the executions.
According to the Iran Human Rights Organization’s annual report, at least 975 executions were carried out in Iran in 2024—marking a 17% increase compared to 2023, when at least 834 executions were recorded. Notably, only 10% of last year’s executions—95 cases—were officially announced by the Iranian authorities or state media.
