In one of the harshest rulings issued in recent months in Ahwaz, the Revolutionary Court of Ahwaz has sentenced three political prisoners to two death sentences each and one year in prison on security-related charges. Two other defendants in the same case received a combined sentence of 27 years in prison.
According to the verdict issued by Branch One of the Ahwaz Revolutionary Court, Masoud Jamai, Alireza Mordasi (Himidaywi), and Farshad Etemadi Far were convicted of charges including “corruption on earth,” “membership in armed opposition groups,” and “propaganda against the regime.” Each was sentenced to two executions and one year in prison.
Additionally, Saman Hormat Nejad and Davood Hormat Nejad, the two other defendants, were sentenced to 12 and 15 years in prison, respectively.
According to HRANA, these individuals have been held in pre-trial detention since 2023 (1402 in the Iranian calendar), without access to legal representation or adequate medical care. A source stated that the confessions attributed to them were extracted under pressure and in inhumane conditions, and that the legal process lacked basic standards of a fair trial.
The charges are reportedly linked to alleged affiliation with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), a group opposed to the Islamic Republic. Iranian state-affiliated media outlet Tasnim News, close to the IRGC, previously claimed the individuals were connected to the “Monafeqin network” and intended to carry out “sabotage operations.”
