An 18-year-old girl named Yalda tragically took her own life in a bathroom at the office of the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation (Komiteh Emdad) in Iran, just before the start of the school year. The reason?
Her family could not afford to buy basic school supplies. Reports reveal that her father had also committed suicide years earlier due to extreme poverty, leaving Yalda to live with her grandfather under desperate conditions.
According to Khabar Online, late last week, news emerged of Yalda’s suicide in the bathroom of the Komiteh Emdad office in Baghmalek, Ahwaz. Some local sources highlighted this horrific event, shedding light on the grim realities many Iranians face under the regime’s insufficient support systems.
Etemad newspaper reported that Yalda Rahimi’s act of suicide inside the Komiteh Emdad building is seen by some as a form of protest. She could have taken her life at her grandfather’s home or elsewhere, but the fact that she chose this specific location raises significant questions about the deeper failures of the welfare system in Iran. Her death at this government institution was no coincidence.
To verify the accuracy of this devastating news, reporters interviewed two Komiteh Emdad employees in Baghmalek, local sources, and one of Yalda’s relatives. A family member revealed that Yalda, who was under the care of the foundation, had recently requested a loan, but her plea was ignored, despite the foundation being fully aware of her dire living conditions.
An employee from Komiteh Emdad confirmed:
“Footage from security cameras shows Yalda entering the employees’ bathroom at the Komiteh Emdad building. After some time, staff noticed the bathroom door was locked. They broke the window, and when they entered, they found Yalda had hanged herself with a scarf.”
This tragic incident exposes the heart-wrenching failure of Iran’s welfare system, where those in need, like Yalda, are ignored and left to fend for themselves.
