Air quality deteriorated sharply across Ahwaz province despite recent rainfall, pushing pollution levels into the red zone in several cities and prompting health warnings for residents.
According to air quality monitoring data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 174 in Ahwaz, 176 in Abadan, 152 in Dezful, and 161 in Mahshahr, all classified as unhealthy levels. Environmental authorities said the air in Ahwaz, Al-Muhammara, and several other cities was particularly harmful for sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and people with respiratory or heart conditions.
Officials urged residents to limit outdoor activities and take precautionary measures as pollution levels remain elevated across the province.
