The family of Iranian activist Pouran Nazemi says they have had no contact with her since she was violently arrested alongside Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi and several other activists during a memorial service on Friday.
Nazemi was detained during a commemoration in the northeastern city of Mashhad for Khosrow Alikordi, a former political prisoner and lawyer for dissidents whose sudden death has raised suspicions among supporters, allegations that Iranian authorities deny.
According to witnesses, security forces forcefully dispersed mourners at the ceremony and arrested at least 39 people, including activists, lawyers, and civil society figures.
Nazemi’s sister, Mahshid, told Ahwaz News Agency (ANA) that she was on a live video call with Pouran when security forces raided the mosque where the memorial was being held.
“The security officers forced open the mosque doors and attacked people with batons and knives,” Mahshid said, adding that tear gas was also fired inside the mosque.
Mahshid said she managed to record parts of the incident by capturing the live video call with her sister, although she was unable to document the alleged knife and baton attacks. However, she provided photographs showing what appear to be knife wounds and bloodstains at the scene.
The whereabouts and condition of Pouran Nazemi remain unknown, raising growing concerns among her family and human rights advocates.
