Human Rights Watch: Iran Deprives Prisoners of Medical Care to Silence and Punish Them
Human Rights Watch has issued a statement accusing Iran of systematically depriving prisoners—especially political detainees—of medical treatment as a means of punishment and coercion.
The human rights organization highlighted several political prisoners who continue to be denied adequate medical care in Iranian prisons, including:
• Zeinab Jalalian
• Fatemeh Sepehri
• Raheleh Rahimi Pour
• Motleb Ahmadian
• Werisheh Moradi, a Kurdish political prisoner on death row
The Executive Director of Human Rights Watch condemned Iran’s deliberate neglect of prisoners’ health, warning:
“The Iranian authorities’ disgraceful policy of depriving detainees and prisoners of medical care could have fatal consequences.”
