Ahwaz (ANA) – Iranian authorities have charged prominent political activist Hossein Ronaghi with “propaganda against the Islamic Republic in favor of Israel” after he posted an Instagram story during the recent 12-day war involving Israeli strikes, sources told Iran International.
The accusation was made under Article 8 of Iran’s Law on Confronting Israeli Actions. Ronaghi was arrested on June 23 on orders from the Tehran prosecutor and the Culture and Media Court. He is currently held in a Ministry of Intelligence safe house, with a 30-day temporary detention order issued against him.
His family remains unaware of his exact location, and his longtime legal representatives, Saeed Jalilian and Milad Panahipour, have been barred from taking up his defense. Iranian authorities have insisted that only lawyers approved by the judiciary can be involved in the case.
On Friday, United Nations experts, including Mai Sato, the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, raised serious concerns over the detention of Hossein Ronaghi and his brother, Hassan Ronaghi, calling for transparency and due legal process.
