Iran has opened a broad investigation into what it claims was an Israeli-orchestrated assassination attempt targeting newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to a senior Iranian official cited by Al Jazeera, Tehran suspects the involvement of an internal agent in the plot.
“The attempt on President Pezeshkian’s life will not go unanswered — Israel will pay the price,” the official warned, suggesting a direct response is imminent.
The alleged operation, which reportedly took place during a high-level National Security Council meeting amid wartime conditions, also aimed at eliminating key figures from Iran’s executive, legislative, and judicial branches. Iranian authorities described the move as part of a broader Israeli strategy to destabilize the country and force regime change from within.
No official statement has been released by Israel regarding the accusations.
