Iranian dissident rapper Saman Yasin arrived in Berlin after being temporarily released from Tehran’s Ghezel Hesar Prison on medical furlough. Arrested during Iran’s 2022 “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests, Yasin was initially sentenced to death for “enmity against God” but later had his sentence reduced to five years in exile. Reports indicate he was tortured and forced to confess during interrogations. Yasin was released on bail in October 2023 after 26 months in prison. Many Iranian dissidents, including filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof and rapper Toomaj Salehi, have sought refuge in Europe following the protests.
