Former U.S. President Donald Trump brushed off a threat from a senior Iranian figure who suggested he could be targeted by a drone strike while relaxing at his Florida estate.
Mohammad-Javad Larijani — a former adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader and brother to two of the regime’s most powerful figures — told Iranian state television that Trump’s role in the killing of General Qassem Soleimani has put him at risk, even while on vacation.
“Trump has done something so that he can no longer sunbathe in Mar-a-Lago,” Larijani said. “As he lies there with his stomach to the sun, a small drone might hit him in the navel. It’s very simple.”
The bizarre threat made headlines after it was first translated by Iran International. When Fox News reporter Peter Doocy read the quote to Trump during a press conference, the former president smiled and replied, “It’s been a long time. I don’t know, maybe I was around seven or so. I’m not too big into [sunbathing].”
As for the threat itself, Trump added: “Yeah, I guess it’s a threat. I’m not sure it’s a threat actually, but perhaps it is.”
Larijani’s comments come as Iran faces growing international isolation and continues to issue warnings to both regional and Western powers in the aftermath of the 12-day war with Israel.
