In a rare admission, Iranian President Pezeshkian acknowledged that officials within the regime are responsible for the people’s suffering, affirming that social justice has not been achieved in the country and that health services are provided unequally across different regions.
Pezeshkian’s remarks reveal part of the bitter reality faced by the Ahwazi people, as Ahwazi cities and villages are deprived of basic living conditions and healthcare services, while their natural resources are squandered for the benefit of Persian provinces.
The president also admitted that the unfair exploitation of natural resources harms both the land and society, something the Ahwazi people witness daily through environmental destruction, river drying, and pollution of air and water.
Observers believe that Pezeshkian’s statements are merely an attempt to absolve himself amid growing public anger and eroding trust in the Iranian regime, while Ahwaz remains the clearest example of the injustice and neglect practiced by the authorities against non-Persian peoples in Iran.
