In a deeply concerning move, four Ahwazi political prisoners have been transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz in preparation for their execution. In a deeply concerning development, four of the six Ahwazi political prisoners were transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz on the morning of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in preparation for the implementation of their death sentences. According to reports from the “Karoon” Human Rights Organization, the transfer from Sheiban Central Prison included Ali Moqadam and Moein Khenfari, both sentenced to death, along with two others from the same group.
This move follows the Iranian Supreme Court’s approval of the death sentences, clearly signaling the imminent execution of these prisoners. The news has caused widespread alarm among the prisoners’ families and human rights organizations.
The case dates back to the arrest of these six detainees between 2018 and 2019 on charges of participating in resistance operations against the Iranian regime. The Revolutionary Court of the occupation authorities in Ahwaz issued death sentences against Mohammad Reza Moqadam, Habib Al-Drees, Adnan Al-Ghabishawi, and Salem Al-Mousawi. The Iranian authorities claim that these activists were involved in the killing of two Basij members, Ali Salehi Majd and Younes Bahr, in addition to the deaths of a police officer, Allah Nazar Safary, and a soldier named Mohammad Reza Rafiee Nasab in the regions of Abadan and Khor Musa.
Despite these charges, many human rights sources emphasize that the Iranian regime does not adhere to standards of justice in the trial of these prisoners, as they are deprived of their rights to a fair defense. Reports indicate that the detainees were forced under torture and psychological pressure to confess to pre-arranged charges without receiving a transparent trial.
On the other hand, the Ahwazi people view these prisoners as heroes in their resistance against the Iranian occupation, considering them as fighters against the ongoing repression practiced by the regime. The operations attributed to them against Iranian security forces are seen as legitimate resistance by the Ahwazi people.
The news of the transfer of the four prisoners to Sepidar Prison has sparked a wave of concern among the Ahwazi community and human rights organizations, who are calling for the halting of the executions and the immediate release of these prisoners.
